What Angi says it checks

Angi's FAQ describes a criminal background check for "the owner, principal, or relevant manager" of approved businesses, and is explicit about the boundary: "Unfortunately, we are unable to perform a background check on every employee of a business - the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal." It also notes that its background check criteria "are not applicable to Corporate Accounts, and Angi does not background check the Corporate Accounts."

What a regulator said about the marketing

In October 2025 the Vermont Attorney General announced a settlement requiring Angi to pay $100,000 and stop using the term "Angi Certified Pro," along with any other term implying governmental credentialing of the contractors on its platform.
