Why we never sell shared leads
On most home-services marketplaces, describing your job creates a "lead" that is sold to several contractors at once, each paying for the chance to call you. On Homversa, there is no form and no lead: you see license-verified companies and you call. This page explains the difference, with every claim sourced to public records.

The FTC ordered HomeAdvisor to pay up to $7.2 million over its lead marketing
In January 2023 the Federal Trade Commission ordered HomeAdvisor, Inc. (an Angi company) to pay up to $7.2 million, finding it had used "a wide range of deceptive and misleading tactics in selling home improvement project leads to service providers" - including claims that leads represented homeowners ready to hire when many did not. The final order was approved in April 2023.

Vermont's Attorney General settled with Angi over "Certified Pro" marketing
In October 2025, the Vermont Attorney General announced a settlement requiring Angi to pay $100,000 and stop using the term "Angi Certified Pro," along with any other term implying governmental credentialing of the contractors on its platform.

HomeAdvisor's own screening page says it does not verify licenses
HomeAdvisor's published screening process states that service professionals themselves affirm they hold applicable licenses, that HomeAdvisor does not verify licensing, and that consumers should confirm licensing with the business and the state. In other words: on the largest lead marketplaces, licensing is self-reported.
How this site works instead
- No forms, no lead files. We never collect your project details and sell them. You call a company directly, or use our referral line, and either way you talk to one business, not five buyers of your phone number.
- Licenses are verified against the state registry, not self-reported. Every listing shows the license number, the verification date, and a link to the official registry so you can check us. If a license lapses, the listing is removed automatically.
- Rankings cannot be bought. Order is determined by published criteria (insurance on file, then years licensed) computed from state records. Our methodology documents every rule.
- How we make money, plainly: We earn a fee when you call businesses through numbers on this site. This never affects who is listed or how they rank.
